BotoxⓇ vs. Fillers: Which Is Right for You?

You can’t change your age, but that doesn’t mean you can’t look and feel young in any decade. Thanks to injectable treatments like BotoxⓇ and dermal fillers, it’s easy to turn back the clock and regain more youthful skin.

Dr. Adebayo J. Adesomo, a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, makes those pesky wrinkles go away using Botox and dermal fillers. You can come in to Houston Women’s Cosmetics  for both of these simple, outpatient treatments that don’t take a lot of time out of your day.

Botox and dermal fillers are similar in many ways but have some differences in what flaws they correct. Learn about what happens when you receive each procedure and the different ways they bring back your younger face.

How Botox works

Botox makes fine lines and facial wrinkles disappear through carefully placed injections. The botulinum neurotoxin in the injections works by targeting the facial muscles that cause wrinkling when you make facial expressions. Your facial muscles relax after receiving Botox, which makes the appearance of wrinkles fade.

Botox works especially well on crow’s feet around your eyes, line between your brows, and horizontal forehead furrows. During your Botox procedure, Dr. Adesomo uses a thin needle to inject Botox into these areas of your face. The treatment takes just a few minutes, and you’ll see changes beginning in the next day or two and continuing to improve. Your results last anywhere from 3-6 months.

Dermal fillers explained

Dermal fillers work by creating a fuller, smoother, and younger-looking face. Depending on the type of filler used, a dermal filler injection makes your face appear plumper, smooths wrinkles, and softens facial folds.

Depending on your personalized needs, Dr. Adesomo uses one of several different dermal fillers, including Voluma®, Restylane®, and Juvedérm®. All three fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance found naturally in your skin that lessens with age. The fillers treat areas of your face that look sunken, shadowed, or wrinkled.

Dr. Adesomo injects fillers in the desired areas of your face using a fine needle. The time it takes for your procedure depends on how many areas are being treated, but it doesn’t take long. And depending on the filler used, your results last 6-12 months.

Which procedure should I choose?

Botox and dermal fillers are both proven anti-aging treatments, but they work on different facial aging problem areas, so the decision depends on what areas of your face you want to target.

Typically, Dr. Adesomo uses Botox for reducing the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, and wrinkling on the forehead.

If you’re hoping to regain youthful fullness or smoothness in the cheeks and lips, dermal fillers are the most effective choice. Dr. Adesomo also uses dermal fillers as the best therapy for deep wrinkles and lines on the face and lips.

It’s possible to get Botox and dermal fillers at the same time, so your treatment plan might include Botox, dermal fillers, or using both concurrently depending on your needs. In your initial consultation, Dr. Adesomo examines your face and listens to your desired outcomes to determine a personalized plan.

If you’d like to see a revitalized, younger-looking face in the mirror, now is the time to start receiving Botox or dermal fillers with Dr. Adesomo. To schedule your initial appointment, use our online booking tool or contact our Houston office by phone.
