Liposuction Q & A

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a procedure Dr. Adesomo uses to slim and reshape your body, improve the way fat is distributed, and reduce stubborn fat pockets in problem areas, such as your:

  • Hips
  • Butt
  • Thighs
  • Stomach
  • Upper arms
  • Back
  • Inner knees
  • Cheeks, chin, and neck
  • Chest
  • Calves and ankles

One liposuction treatment may be all you need to reduce fat deposits and get rid fat in problem areas for good. Liposuction produces more consistent results than noninvasive fat reduction methods and can treat numerous larger areas during just one procedure.

If Dr. Adesomo performs additional cosmetic procedures on you, such as a breast augmentation or a tummy tuck, he can usually complete liposuction during the same procedure.

What should I expect during liposuction?

Dr. Adesomo performs liposuction with the help of local or general anesthesia. He completes the procedure using small incisions and a thin hollow tube that loosens excess fat, dislodges it, and suctions it out of the body.

Once the fat is removed, it won’t come back if you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What is recovery like after liposuction?

During recovery, Dr. Adesomo may give you a bandage or compression garment to wear to compress the affected area and control swelling. He may also place temporary drains in your skin to eliminate excess body fluids and give you medications to help with healing and reduce discomfort.

After several months, the swelling should fully disappear, leaving you with new and improved contours.

Am I a good candidate for liposuction?

Talk with Dr. Adesomo to find out if you’re a good candidate for liposuction. If you have cellulite or loose, sagging skin, another cosmetic treatment might be a better fit for you. You may be a good candidate for liposuction if you:

  • Are within 30% of your ideal body weight
  • Have firm, elastic skin
  • Have good muscle tone
  • Don’t have a life-threatening illness or medical condition that slows healing
  • Don’t smoke
  • Have excess fat deposits that don’t go away with diet and exercise

If you’re otherwise healthy and meet the above requirements, Dr. Adesomo may recommend liposuction to help you achieve desired results and gain the confidence you deserve.
